New Year New Goals

As the year draws to an end we begin to think about what we have achieved this year and start to look at the year ahead and begin to set goals or resolutions.

When we are setting goals we want to be able to achieve the goals that we have set ourselves which will keep you motivated to keep working hard towards the goal.

The goals you set yourself should be SMART Goals

S

The goal is to be specific for example to run a 5k to loose weight,

M

The goal should be measurable for instance to run a 5k without stopping or under 20 minutes to lose 1 stone to lose 5 inches from your waist, to improve health markers such as bring hip to waist ratio into a healthy zone. Goals are to be measurable to enable you to have achievements along the way that you can continue to measure until you reach the end goal. As you take times off running distance or in sessions, or each lb of weight that drops off

A

The goal should be achievable if you are setting yourself a goal to run a 5k in under 20 minutes to loose a certain amount of weight, run a marathon, when setting achievable goals think about the amount of time you can give towards working to the goal, any obstacles that might interrupt training if your body can handle the goal you have set

R

The goal should be realistic which is very similar to achievable but when we think about the goal being realistic if you set a goal to run a sub 20 minute 5k and currently run a 5 k in 30 minutes it may be unrealistic to run a sub 20 minute 5k in 12 months. Think about where you are and if the goal is realistic

T

The goal should have a time constraint to it such as To lose a stone in 12 weeks when I go on holiday or to run a 5k in 30 minutes at the race for life in July. Having a time focused goal keeps you motivated and dedicated to your goals.

Having one big goal and then process goals each week to tick off will keep you motivated and confident in achieving your goals as you will see achievements each week and keep ticking goals off each week, I used this process myself in 2019 and achieved all of the goals I set myself.
